One of the best things about the holidays is driving around town to experience the many wonderful Christmas lights and decorations in Louisville. From light-up events to neighborhoods that go all out when decorating, there are plenty of ways to get your fill of Louisville Christmas lights and decorations.
Of course, festivities shift from year to year, depending on schedules and weather. Check with organizations or towns in advance to verify times and details.

Where: The Galt House
What: The KaLightoscope Christmas light show is part of a larger event called Christmas at the Galt House. Christmas at the Galt House features a landscape of larger-than-life, lighted holiday sculptures, a world-class dinner show, an arts and retail marketplace, a life-sized gingerbread village, imaginative Santa events, and other delights. It is an annual event within a downtown hotel. Since it is large and changes from year to year, it is fun for families to attend every holiday season. They even have a Gingerbread House Competition that is open to the public...start baking!

Where: Louisville Mega Cavern
What: The Mega Cavern is an attraction throughout the year, but the owners invite families to gather up the kids and enjoy a 30-40 minute ride through part of 17 miles of underground passageways which feature over 500 lit characters with over 2,000,000 points of light during the holiday season. It's the only underground light show of its kind on the planet.

Where: Maker's Mark Distillery
What: Bourbon fans, if you are planning on doing a few distillery tours, you might enjoy holiday distillery gatherings. Maker's Mark Holiday Candlelight Tours are an annual event held at Maker's Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. The entire Distillery is covered in holiday lights and decorations. The event is free.

Light Up St. Matthews
What: Light Up St. Matthews features radio letters to Santa, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, train rides, horse-drawn carriage rides, a petting zoo, Ronald McDonald, strolling carolers, cookies, hot chocolate and apple cider and much more. Waverly Hills Christmas Laser Light Show
Where: Waverly Hills
What: This event is a light show on historic property. It is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning the day after Thanksgiving, and running a day or two into the New Year. If you go to the Waverly Hills Christmas Laser Light Show, you will pay a fee per car.
